Summer is here and we have an exciting 3 months ahead of us!
WE ARE FINALLY MAKING IT HAPPEN…starting Monday, June 25th, Kate and I will be teaching an 8 week long sewing class to the homeless women at the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries Genesis House. We have delivered our blanket wraps to the Genesis House many times and the women always expressed interest in learning how to make them. We can’t wait to teach them! Every Monday over the summer we will bring 6 machines to the Genesis House and teach 12 women the basic functions of a sewing machine, how to sew our blanket wraps, hem clothes, read and sew a pattern and learn skills necessary to hopefully get them a job as a seamstress! At the end of the course, we will have a graduation “show and tell” where these women will have the opportunity to show people what they have learned and sewn (we are looking for anyone looking to hire seamstresses to please contact us). Kate and I are so excited about this sewing class and cannot wait to see what this brings for the women of the Genesis House! ANY DONATIONS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED…we will have lots of expenses during our class.
In addition to this class, we will also be working on our blanket wrap inventory so we have plenty of blanket wraps for the winter. We have a goal for 200 blanket wraps this summer…and we will reach it. MK Blanket Wraps is also expanding! We have 2 sewing groups that will be helping us reach our goal this summer…including a kids sewing class in Illinois! We are beyond grateful to be working with these groups.
